As part of the school's teaching-enhancement program, ProfessorLi Yongning commenced his open class in Strategic Management, with Englishlanguage medium of instruction, this Tuesday morning. The lesson wasgiven to the Innovation Class (1602). Dean Zhu Wenzhong and Associate Dean DingHao supervised proceedings. Faculty members Liu Xiaoqin, Qiu Aimei, Li Xiaohuiand Chen Weizhen participated in the session, which was moderated by Dr HuangLei, who is in charge of the English Instruction Program.
Li's fluency of English deeply impressed the whole audience. His session was so well-structured and clearly planned that communicationand interaction between the instructor and students indeed went smoothly andeffectively.
A heated discussion took place after the session. It wascommonly agreed that Professor Li provided an excellent session in StrategicManagement, with English as the medium of instruction. The cases usedwere concise and up-to-date, which proved attractive to the class. The processdemonstrated a perfect integration of theory with practice. Professor Li'sexperience indicated that a proactive and brilliant class context could becreated, even it was conducted in a foreign language, rather than one's mothertongue. The young staff expressed their sincere willingness to participate inthe English instruction team and eagerness in learning more from theexperienced teachers.
English Instruction imposes tough challenges for both thestudents and instructors. However, it has been generally agreed that this canbe the most effective approach for GDUFS and the Business School to achieve itstarget of Internationalization. It has proven to be a big success since theprogram was firstly initiated in the Business School in 2014. Ever since then,cohorts of excellent students have been recruited into the program, and an outstandingteam of about 25 instructors has been established. We strongly believe thatsuch a program is in accordance with the vision of Internationalization ofEducation for the Business School and GDUFS as a whole.
