18th Business Academic Forum: Young Scholars Introduces the Difference and Sense of Over-qualification in Leader-Member Exchange
2020-11-13 12:00

On November 12, the 18th Business Academic Forum was held as scheduled in Room 366. The speakers were Dr. ZHAO Di and Dr. CHEN Xiao from School of Business (SOB).

The forum started with Dr. Zhao sharing his paperThe Antecedents of Leader-member Exchange Differentiation: A Situational Leadership Theory Perspective. In the paper, Dr. Zhao focused on how employee heterogeneity affects the formation of LMXD based on situational leadership theory. The results showed that the heterogeneity of team members' professional competence and of self-efficacy bears a positive relationship with LMXD, while the degree of inter team competition positively moderates the positive relationship between professional competence heterogeneity and LMXD. Team cohesion weakens the positive relationship between self-efficacy and LMXD.

Later, Dr. Chen delivered a speech under the topic of “progress and introduction of the research on the phenomenon of over-qualification——some existed empirical studies and conception of theoretical models”. Meanwhile, Dr. Chen paid close attention to the question that would leaders reject or favor the self-promotion given by employees owning the sense of over-qualification. In the end, she put forth expectations for future research and came up with the idea to explore new ways of transforming excess human capital of employees to organizational capital in the society.

Both speakers gave brilliant speeches about HR-related research which sparked the interest and deep thinking of teachers and students present. Through this Business Academic Forum, teachers and students got to know the relevant research status in the field of human resource segmentation while young scholars caught the weak spots in the research process which will help them to think more deeply in the follow-up research. Such high-quality academic exchanges were exactly the purpose of this forum.
